Black bear cubs are often orphaned when their mothers are struck by vehicles or killed by hunters. To the rescue, literally, comes Angelika and Peter Langen, the proprietors of Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter in British Columbia, the world's only licensed grizzly bear rehab facility. As shown in this reality series, the Langens care for sick, starving, and injured orphan cubs to prepare them for a second chance at life in the wild. Also helping are son Michael, daughter Tanja, son-in-law Shawn, and a few dedicated volunteers.
Two traumatized cubs arrive at the shelter and Angelika employs a variety of approaches when each cub shows different signs of extreme stress.
Angelika attempts to rescue three cubs whose mother was shot; Tanja and Kim head out to release two yearling bears and watch how instinct takes over.
Peter and Angelika race to rescue two cubs whose mother was hit by a car.
When thousands of people turn out to the shelter's annual Open House, Angelika balances public relations with caring for a seriously injured fawn.
